The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has held the prestigious ”Green Talents – International Forum for High Potentials in Sustainable Development” since 2009 to promote the international exchange of innovative green ideas. The award, under the patronage of Minister Professor Johanna Wanka, honours 25 young researchers each year.

Mit dem Motto „Wir suchen die Forscher von morgen!“ wurden vor 45 Jahren zum ersten Mal junge Deutsche zu einem Forschungswettbewerb aufgerufen – die Geburtsstunde von "Jugend forscht". Ziel des Wettbewerbs ist es, deutsche Jugendliche für die Wissenschaft und Forschung zu begeistern und den für die Zukunft Deutschlands besonders wichtigen wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs zu fördern. "Jugend Forscht" gilt mittlerweile als Europas größter Nachwuchswettbewerb für die Kategorien Arbeitswelt, Biologie, Chemie, Geo- und Raumwissenschaften, Mathematik/Informatik, Physik und Technik.
